Hank and his human, Alonzo Reddick, were going for a walk in Phoenix, Arizona one night when Hank started “acting funny.” He led Alonzo to a man who was trapped underneath a 600-pound boulder and yelling for help.
“Me and Hank ran through the wash down there underneath the bridge and ran right through the water,” Alonzo said. “Hank got me there and was pretty adamant to make sure that guy was OK.”
The man had been hiking and tumbled down a hill with the boulder, which finally landed on and trapped his leg, according to local news reports. When Hank and Alonzo discovered him, they called for paramedics and rescue teams, who lifted the rock off his body.
Fortunately, his leg will most likely be saved as well.
“It was definitely an experience I’ll never forget with this dog,” Alonzo said. Hank is five years old and is almost completely blind with cataracts, but you don’t need impeccable eyesight to be a rescue dog who saves the day.
